Earl Christian “Chris” Rovillo was born in Dallas March 22, 1951. On January 5, 1974 at the age of 22 he married his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Eugenia “Jeane” Dabney Gano Rovillo. Witty and well-mannered, his gift with words was equally matched by his talent as a graphic artist who achieved national renown. Chris touched many lives during his distinguished design career. He began as an accomplished art director at Neiman Marcus, moved to the Bloom Agency and later was a principal for the design arm of the Richards Group before founding Rovillo Design Associates in 1990.

As a faculty member of the graphic design departments of the University of North Texas and Texas A&M, Commerce, Chris continued to inspire and share his gift with students who would later start careers in the design world. Chris was both an inspired professional and an inspiration to others. A former president of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications, Chris received that organization’s highest honor, the Golden Egg award for lifetime achievement.

His great talent has been recognized repeatedly by national and international creative organizations, and he served as an invited judge in graphic design competitions throughout the country.

The Workhaus brand concept developed out of the gradual virtualization (related content – great article here about the productivity gains, savings, environmental benefits and even increased safety of going virtual from Inc Mag) of our 12-year-old business and love of working in interesting places outside of our office. As our core staff and clients spread out around the country to live in places close to family or their favorite mountain or terrain, the idea of one central office was not only impractical but more importantly not needed. We have also always enjoyed and am a bit obsessive about creating workspaces.

We are excited about creating collaborative workspaces for people who usually don’t get to work in inspiring creative spaces. And we don’t just mean people who work from home. We hope to attract people who want a more healthy environment to work in. Workhaus is also great for traveling independent professionals who want to avoid the coffee shop shuffle. Imagine your office away from the office. Workhaus lodges are for people who really love their work. It’s not a place to just socialize about work, but its is surely a place to get a lot of focus, collaborative support and business mentoring. We hope to attract members of all ages and backgrounds and from many industries.

The idea is to create an environment where people are serious about their businesses and have the support and social life of working in an office environment without the boundaries of working with ONLY their company. It’s not for everyone. It’s for people who can conduct their business in a light, mobile, and paperless fashion. We have seen co-working work well for graphic and web designers, techies, writers, consultants, sales people, marketing gurus, and especially bootstrappers who are doing all they can to get a business idea off the ground.

The expansion of mobile smartphone adoption coupled with advances in search and map presentation technologies have converged to make Local Search Marketing one of the most important areas in online marketing. Google conservatively states that 20% of all searches have a local intent, and they display a map in about 8% of search results — facts which translate to mean that if your company or clients have geotargeted content you need to know tactics for ranking well in local search results, and have an understanding of where the locational algorithms may be going. By attending this special local search marketing panel presentation, you’ll learn some of the newest techniques and developments from top industry experts.
The DFWSEM is proud to present our respected panelists for the May 19 Meeting.
Hybrid Design was formed by the University of North Texas graduate Brian Flynn and his wife, Dora Drimalas. By blending their complementary, yet diverse design styles and methodologies, Hybrid produces one-of-a-kind concepts not usually expected from a traditional design firm.

Hybrid Design focuses on complete brand strategies, beginning with initial concept and ideation, and then follow through to identity, retail, environment and product design. Their process involves understanding the true needs of the clients, not just delivering a group of pretty pictures and materials. Brian and Dora—both UNT alumni—approach each project by addressing the essential design problem, and developing a conceptual strategy to solve it. That concept then drives the basis of the design to follow – not the other way around.

Hybrid Design has built a client roster that ranges from the more corporate Nike, Starwood Hotels, and Vans to more youth driven clients such as Upper Playground, Akademiks, Mecca USA as well as our own brand Super7, Hybrid Home and Allies of the R:Evolution (R:E), bringing their concept driven approach to every project and client regardless of size and budget.

Explore some of Hybrid’s work at Hybrid Design, Hybrid Home, Super7 and Allies of the R:Evolution (R:E), and come give Brian Flynn a great homecoming reception at the Magnolia Theater on Wednesday, February 3rd.
